The following guide has been tested and confirmed to be working on Mac OS X Lion, Mountain Lion, and Mavericks.
Show Hidden Files
Open the Terminal application
Applications > Utilities > Terminal and from the CLI prompt enter the following command:
defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles TRUE && killall Finder;
To confirm that your hidden files are now showing up properly, open up the finder and navigate to your
Macintosh HD drive. You should see files/folders which are semi-transparent (these were previously hidden).

If you want to revert this change, then from the CLI prompt enter the following command:
defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles FALSE && killall Finder;
We successfully learned how to enable/disable hidden files on our Mac.
